Preceded by a pre-concert meditation - 3:00 PM
The Gaïa and Phœbus choirs, in collaboration with the Oktoecho ensemble, present the concert Voix nordiques, an ambitious musical project exploring nordicity in all its forms, on February 21, 2026, at the Church of Oka. Under the direction of Roseline Blain for Gaïa and Phœbus, and Katia Makdissi-Warren for Oktoecho, this concert offers a sensitive and powerful immersion into the world of Northern peoples. Nordicity is approached as a cultural, poetic, and human reality shaped by cold, light, nature, and resilience. Across vast northern landscapes—from Lapland to Nunavik, via Scandinavia—Voix nordiques weaves a rich tapestry of traditions, stories, and imagery imbued with snow, silence, and inner strength. Inuit throat singing, performed by Lydia Etok and Nina Segalowitz, intertwines with harmonies from the Western musical tradition, creating a unique and deeply evocative sonic dialogue. The program highlights works by Erik Bergman, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Sibelius and Mäntyyärvi, Richard Kidd, and Katia Makdissi-Warren, offering a musical panorama that celebrates the richness and diversity of Nordic cultures.
