Under the artistic direction of composer Katia Makdissi-Warren, Okotécho explores mixed music and musical sounds through its own compositions.
Aymen Trabelsi
Ney player and multi-instrumentalist

A virtuoso musician, Aymen Trabelsi is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in wind instruments from the Maghreb and the Middle East. Originally from Kairouan, Tunisia, he holds a Master’s degree in Music and Musicology from the Higher Institute of Music of Sousse. He is a highly accomplished ney player, the Arabic end-blown flute that is his instrument of choice. His practice is rooted in the maqāmāt, which he explores both through traditional repertoire and contemporary creation. He has contributed to the development of an innovative flute inspired by the ney, allowing him to explore a wide range of sounds and instrumental colours. He also plays the Tunisian mezoued and its North African counterparts, as well as clarinet, saxophone, accordion and many other instruments. His playing is distinguished by a sensitive and expressive approach that speaks directly to the heart. Based in Quebec, he continues his work as a performer and educator, teaching students of all ages. He has been collaborating with Oktoecho since 2024, as well as on film music projects and stage productions.
