Louisa Quaritalyu
Inuit Throat Singer
Presentation
Louisa Quaritalyu is originally from a remote Inuit village of Puvirnituq, Nunavik located on the Hudson Bay coast. She is currently living in Montreal, Qc with her family. She learned throat singing in her adolescent years from her grandmother Alacie Aullaq Tullaugak - who travelled globally to perform throat singing and share Inuit culture- and at home with her sister Leela and her friends. Louisa is a mother of two daughters, to whom she hopes to pass down the talent to keep the Inuit traditions alive. When she’s not on stage to perform, Louisa works in Administration at Makivvik where she organizes meetings and coordinates translations. She also enjoys reading, sewing, dancing and watching movies or tv shows. She hopes to travel throughout Inuit Nunangat (Nunavik, Nunavut, Nunatsiavut and Labrador) to eventually throat sing with other amazing and talented singers. She has been collaborating with Oktoecho since 2021.
