As a classically and jazz-trained musician, Michel Dubeau excels in the interpretation of various wind instruments, including the saxophone, clarinet, and flute. In 1987, he embarked on his musical journey into the world of Japanese shakuhachi under the guidance of Yoshio Masumoto in Montreal. Michel Dubeau also plays the Japanese shinobue, the Arabic ney, the Armenian duduk, the Chinese di-dze, the South American qéna, the Bulgarian kaval, the Scottish bagpipes, and many others. In August 2016, he earned the title of shihan and the artist name Zenchiku, in accordance with Japanese tradition. He has also accompanied the Globe Theatre in theatrical productions and has released three albums. Michel Dubeau successfully merges diverse musical influences, thereby marking an impressive and eclectic musical career. He has been collaborating with Oktoecho since 2024.
